Schematic explanation of lactate production in cells because of the generation of NAD+ from NADH to sustain glycolysis. Rotenone is a mitochondrial poison, inhibiting mitochondrial function; cloquinol causes oxidative stress and as a result compromises mitochondrial function and β lapachone results an increase of NAD+, which is believed to reduce the need for lactate production.
