A regulatory variant in Cx43 abrogates RARE function. pCNE-Cx43-A (A allele) or pCNE-Cx43-C (C allele) was injected into zebrafish with Tol2 mRNA. The plasmid containing a 500 bp promoter region within the WT-RARE drove cardiac expression in zebrafish. When mutated, it lost RARE activity. (a,b,c) Wild-type zebrafish without vector injection.
