Trm10 catalyzes m1G9 formation in tRNA. (A) Representative cloverleaf structure of tRNA showing position of the G9 residue that is the target for Trm10 methylation. (B) Trm10 uses S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as the donor of the methyl group to form m1G9. A protein residue (D210 in ScTrm10) has been proposed to serve as a general base (indicated by GB:) to abstract the proton from the N1 target atom for methylation.
