Photomicrographs (a) and bar graph (b) showing astrocytic responses in the spinal dorsal horn seven days postoperative. Little GFAP immunoreactivity was observed in the Sham group, but the CCI group showed markedly increased GFAP immunostaining. GFAP-immunostaining astrocytic profiles were characterized by small, compact cell bodies with long, thin ramified processes seven days after HBO treatment, and significantly fewer GFAP-immunoreactive astrocytes were present in the HBO group than in the CCI group. Fewer GFAP-immunoreactive astrocytes were observed in the HBO group than in the K group. *p < 0.05, ns, p > 0.05. n = 4.
