Montelukast prevents chlorine‐induced increases in IL‐6 and VEGF. Cytokine and chemokine levels in the BAL were measured 24 h following chlorine (Cl2) exposure. (A) Chlorine induced an increase in IL‐6 release compared with air‐exposed mice, an effect prevented by montelukast (MK) treatment. (B) Montelukast treatment prevented increases in VEGF release following chlorine exposure. (C) Chlorine did not affect levels of CXCL2. (D) Chlorine increased CCL3 levels, but montelukast had did not prevent this increase. (E) KC was increased following chlorine, but montelukast did not prevent this increase.
