If the proton elimination step of isoprene synthase were regiospecific then (E)-[4,4,4-2H3]DMAPP would exclusively yield [4,4,4-2H3]isoprene and (Z)-[4,4,4-2H3]DMAPP would exclusively yield [1,1-2H2]isoprene.
