Differential expressions of miR-340 and EZH2 assayed respectively by FISH and IHC in cancer and adjacent normal tissues of 62 TNBC samples. (A) MiR-340 expression was reduced in cancer tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues, whereas EZH2 was over-expressed in cancer tissues. The heat map represents gene expression on a linear scale, with a maximum immunoreactive score of 6 to highlight differences within this range. (B) Inverse correlation (R=-0.42, P<0.01) of miR-340 and EZH2 relative expression in cancer and normal tissues. A trend line is provided in each plot, which represented the 'best fit,' as determined by simple linear regression. (C) MiR-340 was lowly expressed in TNBC cells (Cal-51, MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468) in comparison with hormone receptor positive cells (MCF-7 and T47D). (D) However, EZH2 was over-expressed in TNBC cells, especially in MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468.
