Identification and characterization of heterogeneity by single-cell analysis. Single-cell approaches enable the identification and characterization of cellular subtypes in a heterogeneous population and their implications in disease based on rich expression profiles acquired at single-cell resolution. Computational analyses translate the high-dimensional data into low-dimensional cell maps and extract information on subtype composition and gene expression differences within and between subtypes in healthy and diseased conditions as well as reconstruct cellular trajectories of continuous processes.
