Forward simulation of a two-compartment model consisting of an isotropic and an anisotropic diffusion compartment. The FOD is shown as the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in 2D. The FOD from a dispersing population of sticks is shown as the black dashed line. The sticks have no diffusion along the perpendicular direction. The simulation demonstrates that a geometry without dispersion, but with certain diffusion along the perpendicular direction, i.e. a cigar-like response function can produce a similar FOD (red solid line) as the dispersed sticks.
