Propofol and lipids were included in the ethanol stream. Liposome formation and drug encapsulation was performed in a staggered herringbone mixer (SHM), operated with a total flow rate of 2 mL min⁻¹ and a ratio of 1:3 ethanol:aqueous solution. The results are presented as mean and standard deviation (mean ± s.d.) resulting from three independent runs (n = 3), N/A = not applicable.

^*After each pass a volume of pure buffer was added to compensate for permate and maintain constant volume of retentate.
