Fatal cases of acute melioidosis show reduced antibody responses to Bp antigen BPSS1525 compared to seronegative controls. Serum samples from seronegative controls (black squares), acute melioidosis survivors (upward black triangles), acute melioidosis fatal cases (black circles) and melioidosis survivors 12 weeks after acute illness (downward black triangles) (n = 20 per group) were used to measure antibody titres against the Bp antigens BPSL2520 (A), BPSS1525 (B) and BPSL2096 (C). Error bars represent mean + SEM and statistical significance between groups was determined using the Mann Whitney test.
