(2017) to include the 16 additional species with recently available genome projects (see Table 1). The stem placental mammal branches are indicated in blue. Note that the UCP1 stem placental branch is much longer than those of UCP2 and UCP3, demonstrating a greater number of nucleotide substitutions per site. Placental mammal genes are highlighted with blue boxes. The tree was rooted with the western clawed frog (Xenopus tropicalis) UCP3.
