A weak TLS does not alter patterns of osk mRNA localization. (A) The A-up mutation reduces TLS-dependent oocyte transport (experiments as those described for Fig. 6D; quantification is shown in Fig. 6E). See Fig. S1 for transgene RNA levels. The control osk transgene is as described in Fig. 3. All egg chambers are previtellogenic stages. (B) The A-up mutation suppresses the RNA localization defects associated with presence of the TLS. Transgenes were present in two copies for all genotypes and RNAs detected by in situ hybridization. The fraction of late stage 9 and stage 10 oocytes with anterior or lateral cortical osk mRNA is indicated, and was scored as noted in Fig. 6.
