Timeline of procedures used in the present study.

Days 1–5 Social Bonding Initial pairing of male and female prairie voles in clean, neutral cages
Days 6–10 Continued Pairing or Social Isolation Paired voles remain in paired cages; isolated voles are separated into individual cages (cage changes matched)
Days 11–20 Chronic Mild Stress Paired and isolated voles are exposed to 10 days of chronic mild stressors (details in Figure 1; cage changes matched)
Day 21 Tail Suspension Test Paired and isolated voles are exposed to a 5-minute tail suspension test, followed by replacement in the home (paired or isolated) cage
Day 22 Forced Swim Test Paired and isolated voles are exposed to a 5-minute forced swim test, followed by replacement in the home (paired or isolated) cage and heat lamp for 15 minutes
Day 25 Sample Collection Blood collection from all paired and isolated voles
