Current NICE criteria for an asthma diagnosis

Criteria to be applied in children with symptoms in keeping with asthma. Peak flow should be monitored for 2–4 weeks. More than 20% variability needed for positive test. For patients in whom asthma is suspected, after 6 weeks repeat abnormal tests and review symptoms. NICE=National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
