Swiss BDM sampling design. Dots represent a systematic grid of 509 plots, each 1 km2 in size, spanning six BGRs (names and altitude ranges shown in map). A denser sampling grid is used in the Jura Mountains and Southern Alps because of their smaller area. For our analysis, we used a subset of 447 plots (gray).
