In vitro development of mouse embryos exposed to rhein at the blastocyst stage: (A) mouse morulae were treated with or without rhein (5, 10 or 20 μM) for 24 h and cultured for an additional 24 h, and the percentages of blastocysts were calculated; and (B) mouse blastocysts were incubated with or without rhein (5, 10 or 20 μM) for 24 h, cultured for seven days, and then classified as attachment-only, ICM+, ICM++, or ICM+++ based on morphological assessment, as described in the Materials and Methods.
