Synthesis mechanism of smHSSs. (A) and (a) TEOS in pure ethanol and CTAB micelles in diluted ammonia water were flowed into the spiral microchannel through the inlets; (B) and (b) hydrolysis of TEOS occurred at the interface of the two laminar flows near the inlets, then continuous condensation of hydrolyzed TEOS built up the shell layer with a complete mixing of the two fluids; (C) and (c) smHSSs were collected at the outlet.
