Fig. 2 — Among patients with ARDS (N = 135), plasma syndecan-1 levels were significantly higher in patients with non-pulmonary sepsis compared to those with pulmonary sepsis (a, p = 0.017 by Mann–Whitney U test). There was a trend for higher syndecan-1 levels to be associated with severity of ARDS in the subgroup (n = 56) of ARDS patients with non-pulmonary sepsis (b, p = 0.087 by linear-by-linear association test)
