Galectin-3–MUC1 interaction promotes EGRF activation in human breast epithelial cells. HCA1.7+ (a), HCA1.7− (b) and HTD(ΔCT) (c) cells were treated with EGF in the presence or absence of galectin-3 for various time before analysed by immunoblotting with antibodies against p-EGFR, EGFR and actin. Galectin-3 treatment increased EGFR activation of the full-length MUC1 transfectants HCA1.7+ and the MUC1 cytoplasmic domain-depleted transfectants HTD(ΔCT), but not of the MUC1-negative revertants HCA1.7.
