Illustration of the modified Matsuura [24] model with directional bias. The yeast cells (grey cells) and nutrient packets (black dots) are confined to a lattice. Yeast cells absorb nutrient and reproduce into neighbouring cells. Cells reproduce away from their mother in the direction of the cell axis with probability pd, with the remaining probability spread evenly between the two directions perpendicular to the cell axis. Nutrient diffuses randomly through the lattice.
