Significant differences between a previously proposed structural model of RARα–RXRα heterodimer on DR1 by Rochel et al.7, 35 (left) and the current crystal structure of RARβ–RXRα on DR1 (right). The proteins and DNA are colored in the same way as in both figures. The DBD domains from two complexes are positioned in the same orientation to clearly highlight the overall differences in quaternary structures. Note that in these two models, the LBD–LBD segments have clearly different (rotational and translational) positionings with respect to both their DR1 DNA and DBDs
