Table 1.

Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria for Trauma and Depression Group Status

Depressed Trauma
  • At least moderate depression symptoms (HDRS ≥ 15)

  • Diagnosis of MDD or Dysthymic (SCID)

  • No history of psychosis or mania (SCID)

  • No current or past Axis 1 Disorders other than depression (e.g., PTSD) with the exception of comorbid generalized anxiety disorder and past history of alcohol or substance abuse

  • Meet SCID traumatic event Criterion A: 1) experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to physical integrity of self or others 2) response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror

Non-depressed No Trauma
  • No depression (HDRS ≤ 8)

  • No current or past Axis 1 Disorders (e.g., PTSD, depression) with the exception of past history of alcohol or substance abuse

  • Did not report traumatic event(s)

  • Reported traumatic event(s) did not meet SCID Criterion A for a traumatic event
