Schematic of GLIS1-3 proteins and their roles in stem and progenitor cells. The DBD consisting of five zinc finger motifs (ZF1-5) and the TAD are indicated. The DBD recognizes a G-rich GLISBS in the regulatory region of target genes. Regulation of transcriptional activation or repression by GLIS proteins is mediated through their recruitment of co-activator or co-repressor complexes, respectively.
