Table 3.

Cell-number–dependent effects of DPC-FS transplantation on locomotor recovery (BBB scores).

Vehicle (n = 5) 1 × 104 (n = 6) 1 × 105 (n = 5) 1 × 106 (n = 5)
1 W 0.1 ± 0.1 0.3 ± 0.1 0.9 ± 0.2 0.7 ± 0.4
3 W 0.9 ± 0.3 0.8 ± 0.3 3.5 ± 1.0* 4.0 ± 0.8**
7 W 0.5 ± 0.3 0.9 ± 0.4 4.4 ± 1.0*** 4.9 ± 0.9***

Locomotor function of the hind limbs was evaluated at 1, 3, and 7 weeks after injury and transplantation with the indicated number of DPC-FS. The values are expressed as the mean ± SE. Significant differences were determined using two-way repeated measures ANOVA with a post hoc Tukey’s multiple comparison test; *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, and ***p < 0.001 compared with the SCI/vehicle group.
