Virus shedding rates in trachea and cloacal swabs of H9N2-infected SPF chickens detected by the multiplex rRT-PCR and virus isolation. Three-week-old SPF White Leghorn chickens were inoculated intranasally with 10⁶ EID₅₀ of AIV H9N2 in a 0.2 ml volume (n = 20). Trachea and cloacal swabs were collected from chickens at 3, 5, and 7 dpi, and resuspended in 1 ml PBS for total RNA extraction followed by rRT-PCR and virus isolation.
