Chemical probes of HIV-1 Env function. a A panel of chemical probes was developed and tested for inhibition of a diverse set of HIV-1 strains from different clades. The average IC50 values were calculated from those obtained in two or three independent experiments. The IC50 of each compound for each virus strain is plotted on a heat map; the compounds are ordered according to the geometric mean IC50 of each compound against the panel of viruses and the viruses are clustered according to the combination of IC50s of the set of compounds against a specific strain. Transmitted/founder, acute/early, and primary isolates are shown with purple, light blue, and black letters, respectively. Under the conditions tested, variation of up to two orders of magnitude in sensitivity to the different compounds was observed across different HIV-1 isolates. b The geometric mean IC50 of all compounds against each specified HIV-1 strain. c The geometric mean IC50 of each specified compound against the panel of viruses
