We used our metrics of community cohesion as predictors of the rate of compositional turnover (Bray–Curtis dissimilarity) in the Mendota phytoplankton communities. Negative cohesion was a significant predictor (P<1 × 10−20) of Bray–Curtis dissimilarity, and the regression explained 46.5% of variation in compositional turnover.
