The number of surface-sarcolemmal caveolae is scaled per membrane spanning two neighboring Z-lines (“per sarcomere”). This number declined with time after cell isolation. Surface-sarcolemmal caveolae were quantified for 9–12 sarcomeres per cell, in six myocytes at each time point.
