The data for this figure were obtained from the annual reports of the Australian meningococcal surveillance programme (2000–2014). The ‘NG/ND’ category includes meningococci that were not viable for serogrouping or not serogroupable. Of the 4144 meningococcal strains isolated over the 15-year period shown, only 3 MenA (one each in 2003, 2004 and 2005) and 1 MenX isolates (in 2007) were identified. MenB was responsible for more than half of the cases in any year and a decrease in MenC prevalence was observed post-2003.
