Phylogenetic placement of the Rickettsia symbionts of Culicoides midges based on the 16S rRNA gene.

Previously characterized Rickettsia groups including the basal group of Hydra are also presented. Host names are used in the absence of official Rickettsia species name. Tree topology and posterior probabilities (shown as color‐coded circles on each node) were inferred using Bayesian analysis in MrBayes under GTR + G + I (for details see the ‘Experimental procedures’ section). Sequence accession numbers are shown in brackets. A black star depicts the midges Rickettsia, which draft genome is presented in this study.
