Organism abbreviations are listed in Table 1. Optimal growth temperature is indicated by an open circle with a line indicating the maximum growth temperature. Ethanol yields were calculated from previously published data (Lamed and Zeikus, 1980; Bryant et al., 1992; Engle et al., 1996; Peng et al., 2008; Cripps et al., 2009; Dai et al., 2011; Hemme et al., 2011; Lo et al., 2015). Dk is reported to grown on but not produce ethanol (Visser et al., 2013).
