While YAPS utilizes all available hydrophone registrations to estimate positions for all transmissions, data volume is progressively condensed and reduced in the alternative pathway leading to loss of information and ultimately less estimated positions in the final track. Additionally, YAPS provides direct estimation of movement model parameters using all available data. Moreover, as indicated by the question marks in the figure, available vendor supplied software are proprietary and the underlying models and filter algorithms are not accessible to the user. Therefore, exact model formulation and potential filtering criteria are unknown.
