Small-angle X-ray scattering studies. A, SAXS intensities of galectin-3 as a function of the scattering vector q (Å−1). B, the Kratky plot is typical of that of a partially folded protein (78). C, linear fitting of the Guinier plot shows (using Equation 4) that the radius of gyration (Rg) of galectin-3 is ∼28.92 Å. The range chosen for the fitting is within the qRg limit (1.28). This experimental Rg is smaller than that of a non-restrained ensemble (Rg = 34.61 Å) (D) but close to that of an ensemble with restrained spatial sampling (Rg = 27.66 Å) (E). A.U., arbitrary units.
