Nucleus pulposus intensity to whole disc intensity (NI/DI) was computed for the control, stab-, and trypsin- samples. The DMMB assay, normalized to chondroitin sulfate, was conducted on these samples following microCT. The NI/DI was significantly and highly correlated with the proteoglycan composition of the disc (p <0.001; r2 = 0.9581; Pearson’s correlation).
