Graphical 3D-Representation of the pathways involved in glioma tumorigenesis mediated by Hypoxic-Inducible Factor. Hypoxia is a pathological hallmark of glioblastoma. The figure shows a simplified representation of the mechanisms active inside the tumor following the deficit of O2. Hypoxia activates HIF-1α-mediated pathways: neoangiogenesis, tumor growth and invasion which are essential to promote and maintain tumor progression and fitness. ACF inhibits HIF-1α transcriptional activity by disrupting the dimerization of HIF-1α and HIF-1β and impairing the following HIF-1 target gene expression.
