The lower case letters a–l denote the position of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the gene sequences of cultivars Spark, Badger, Avalon, Cadenza, Rialto, Charger and Chinese Spring. The uppercase letters A, T, C and G represent DNA bases adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine, respectively. The coloured letters denote the haplotype associated with early flowering. b# and l* denote the SNPs likely to affect function because SNP A–C change the amino acid threonine to proline and the SNP G‐T changes the wild‐type amino acid serine to arginine.
