The figure shows the inference quality for ${\alpha }_{\text{dfe}}$ (inferred from DFE alone) and ${\alpha }_{\text{div}}$ (inferred from DFE and divergence data) for four simulated demographic scenarios (const: population of constant size, grow: population that grows in size once; shrink: population that shrinks in size once; exp: population that undergoes an exponential growth; see details in File S1) and a deleterious DFE only or a full DFE (Table 1). For all inference, only SFS data were used and an LRT was performed to compare the full and deleterious-only DFE models. The estimated value of α was obtained from the model preferred by the LRT.
