Timescale of nucleosome unwrapping. The time scale of nucleosome unwrapping is characterized by the autocorrelation function, 𝒖^(0)𝒖^(t), where 𝒖^ corresponds to the orientation of the 30 bp of entering nucleosomal DNA. The autocorrelation function is fit well to a two-exponential decay, Aet/τa+(1A)et/τ, where τa is a short time scale and τ is the time scale of interest.
