Tongue tissue from 4NQO-treated and vehicle-treated mice was homogenized and TNFα protein was measured using an ELISA kit. A) The TNFα concentration (pg/mg) was significantly increased in oSCC tongue tissue (n = 6) compared to mild dysplasia tongue tissue (n = 5). TNFα concentrations were normalized to total protein concentration (pg/mL) in the sample. TNFα protein in vehicle-treated tongues was below the level of detection. B) Representative 20× images of TG neuron sections retrogradely labeled with DiI (red) and immunostained for TNFα receptor 1 and 2 (green).
