Predicted secondary structure of candidate regulatory sRNAs confirmed by Northern blotting. Secondary structures were predicted with mfold. Northern blot images are from biofilm samples, y-axis depicts sRNA size, in nucleotides, estimated by RNA ladders run in parallel. CU-rich sequence stretches are indicated in red. For ncS25, a deletion mutant was included in Northern analysis, the band not present in the mutant (grey arrow) corresponds in size to predictions.
