(a) Cell viability of pure zinc and zinc alloy exposed to A549 human lung alveolar epithelial cells. Cytotoxic response of human lung epithelial cells exposed to extraction medium was assessed using the MTS assay. Specific absorbance from untreated cells was used as the reference for normalising the test-well data to calculate “% of control cell viability. Values are expressed as mean ±SEM (n = 3 separate experiments each performed in triplicate).
