Recombinant E. coli with PDO-GFP fusions oxidizes polysulfide. Cells were resuspended in 50 mM Tris-HCl buffer (pH 8.0) at an OD₆₀₀ of 2. Polysulfide was added to 550 μM to initiate the reaction. Polysulfide (A), sulfite (B), and thiosulfate (C) were consumed and produced by E. coli BL21(DE3) with pBBR2-Cppdo2-gfp, pBBR2-Cppdo1-gfp, pBBR2-Papdo2-gfp, pBBR2-Cppdo2, pBBR2-Cppdo1, pBBR2-Papdo2, or pBBR2-gfp or the buffer, as indicted. All data are averages for at least three samples with standard deviations (error bars).
