Representative photographs of rat brains after surgery. In the sham-operated rats (a), there is no blood clotting throughout the brain. In the SAH group (b), the inferior basal temporal lobe was always stained by blood. Hence, the brain tissue adjacent to the clotted blood was taken to the analysis. The site of the obtained sample was indicated with ovals. SAH, subarachnoid hemorrhage.
