Control 57.8 ± 7.0 17.5 ± 2.2 14.05 ± 1.8
CATH-2 52.9 ± 9.2 19.4 ± 3.6 21.6 ± 9.1
Heat 55.6 ± 8.0 18.3 ± 2.9 14.45 ± 3.1
Gentamicin 58.9 ± 8.7 17.3 ± 2.6 15.75 ± 6.2
a

Male C57BL/6 mice were instilled with 50 μl of 2 × 106 CFU/ml P. aeruginosa, which was either CATH-2 killed (20 μM), gentamicin killed (1 mg/ml), or heat killed (90°C, 1 h). Alternatively, control mice were instilled with an air bolus. After 6 h, lung compliance was determined and lung elastance was calculated. In addition, total protein levels in the BALF were determined. n = 3 or more. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni's post hoc test, but no significant differences were detected.
