Effect of CheW excess on Tsr methylation levels. Strain UU1626 (Tsr− Tar− Tap− Trg− Aer− CheA− CheW−) carried compatible plasmids encoding Tsr (pCS12) and CheWΔ8 (pPA770 and mutant derivatives). Tsr modification patterns were visualized in low-bis polyacrylamide gels by immunoblotting (see Methods). Faster-migrating bands represent more highly methylated species.
