Nematode eggs exit the host in feces, and larvae develop on feces to the iL3 stage. iL3s either infect hosts from the feces on which they developed, or migrate off the feces and into the environment to search for hosts or new host fecal sources. Eventually, nearly all iL3s leave their original fecal source to engage in host seeking.
