Current state of the desmin interactome. Known direct connections of desmin with proteins of different cardiomyocyte compartments are presented. The different colors indicate the corresponding compartment that the desmin-associated proteins are localized to (see key, lower right). The positions of these compartments are indicated in the typical cardiomyocyte diagram shown as a neutral background (adapted from Capetanaki et al. 2015). Proteins localized in multiple compartments are shown with the corresponding multiple colors. Only a few proteins (dysbindin, calcineurin, and RIIa) are shown that connect indirectly to desmin—all through myospryn.
