Experimental design. Male institute for cancer research (ICR) mice (5 weeks old) were orally administered a 70% ethanol extract of Spirulina maxima (SM70EE; 150 or 450 mg/kg/day) or an equal volume of vehicle (1.0% methylcellulose) once daily for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, mice received an intracerebroventricular (I.C.V.) injection of Aβ1–42 (400 pmol) and continued receiving the same dosage of SM70EE (or vehicle) for an additional 2 weeks. Behavioral tests were conducted after the SM70EE administration concluded.
