Finite element simulation of a neo-Hookean half-space by a spherical indenter. Indentation results in a complex, inhomogeneous strain field and inverse finite element methods are usually employed to estimate material constants. The strain field plotted here is the normal component in the direction of the applied force of the logarithmic strain tensor, which is discussed in §2.
